Two Bridges, One Project

This program explores how Kentucky leaders and other stakeholders came together for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project - a project that built two new bridges, reconfigured an urban labyrinth of merging interstates, constructed a tunnel under a historic-and-protected property, and created miles of new highways. The project which took decades of debate and planning to get to construction was completed in December 2016. In the history of Metro Louisville, there has never been a project more impactful, more expensive, and more unifying.

The story of how and why thousands of freed enslaved African-Americans undertook the hazardous journey across the Atlantic to build a new country in Africa is told partly in the words of Abraham Lincoln, Henry Clay and Alfred Russell, a Kentuckian who became president of Liberia. A visit to an area still known as "Kentucky in Africa" explores the continuing legacy of these 19th-century pioneers.

Lexington in the '40s: Swingin' in the Bluegrass

Central Kentuckians recall the big band music scene in the Bluegrass during the World War II era, when Lexingtonians danced in clubs like Joyland, the Green Dome, and the Cotton Club and in the ballrooms of the Phoenix and Lafayette hotels.
