Marlowe | Southern Sounds
Marlowe is a dynamic collaboration between beat-maker L'Orange and MC Solemn Brigham, a 15-year friendship started in Wilmington, North Carolina, a place both still call home. Vintage sounds nod to hip-hop roots with a flair that carves a new future for the genre. Spend a while freestyling at the Brigham family barbeque, and with a rousing performance for family and friends.

Celebrate Southern identity through the eyes of contemporary creators of literature, music, film, and television, including authors Jesmyn Ward, Michael Twitty, Angie Thomas, and David Joy; poets Jericho Brown and Natasha Trethewey; songwriters Jason Isbell, Lyle Lovett, Tarriona “Tank” Ball, Adia Victoria, Amanda Shires, Thao Nguyen, and Justin Moore; songwriter/screenwriter/actor Billy Bob Thornton; songwriter/actress Mary Steenburgen; and screenwriters Qui Nguyen and Michael Waldron in three one-hour-long episodes.
- Episode 1: Five noted creators of literature, music and film reveal deep ties to the American South.
- Episode 2: Six of the South’s native creators take us home to the places that define their work.
- Episode 3: Southern creators take us home to the places that define them.

Through the lenses of very different professions, these four wonderful storytellers add to Kentucky’s great storytelling tradition.
Southern Sounds
In addition to the three-part broadcast series, Southern Storytellers includes a six-part series of 10-minute episodes on PBS Digital Studios – Southern Sounds – that explores the powerful role of place in the lyrics of Southern songwriters.
