Speed Art Museum
The Speed Art Museum in Louisville reopened in spring 2016 after four years of renovation and expansion. “A lot more of the collection is now on view than it used to be, which is great for our visitors, to be able to share more of the treasures that we have,” said Chief Curator Scott Erbes.
Erika Holmquist-Wall, curator of European and American paintings and sculpture, said the museum had a chance to reinvent itself. “We’re basically opening an entire museum from scratch. And that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Kentucky Gateway Museum Center
Maysville is home to the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center. The “gateway” in the name refers to the town’s roots.
“Most of the settlers coming down the Ohio River came through what was then Limestone, which we now refer to as Maysville,” said C.J. Hunter IV, the museum’s executive director. The museum building itself dates to the 1880s, he said. “Our museum has been in existence since that time, first as a library, and now we hold several different collections,” he said.

Lake Cumberland
Lake Cumberland has been a favorite getaway in Kentucky since its impoundment for over 60 years. The 101-mile-long lake stretches across five counties: Cumberland, Clinton, Wayne, Russell and Pulaski. One of the largest reservoirs in the country, it was created by the impoundment of the Cumberland River.
Park ranger Judy Daulton of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Wolf Creek Dam was authorized in the 1940s to create a source of hydroelectric power for the region and to prevent flooding. Construction was completed in the 1950s.

Mattingly said his father’s dream was farming, and the family enterprise began in 1976. “We’re still farming the original 200 acres, plus we’ve added about another 100 acres to that recently,” he said.
