It is a moment many remember fondly – the television is rolled into the classroom, transforming an ordinary day into something special. For Rebecca Rose, those special days spent watching The Electric Company in the classroom sparked a lifelong connection to learning, one that would later position KET as a trusted resource for her career and family.

As a child, I liked it. As an adult, I loved it because I saw how useful it was as an educator.

When Rebecca began working as a special education teacher at Butler County High School, she discovered KET’s resources for teachers, including KET Encyclomedia (a precursor to PBS LearningMedia) and distance learning courses. These resources empowered her with the tools she needed to keep her students engaged, especially since she was teaching all subjects. “I think that’s when I really grew to appreciate KET as an adult. As a child, I liked it. As an adult, I loved it because I saw how useful it was as an educator,” she notes.

When she retired from education, Rebecca began to use her passion for volunteering to help others discover the benefits of KET. “I come from a family of volunteers,” she says, “So, when I retired and was no longer teaching, I felt a void, like I wasn’t doing as much as I ought to, to support my community and state.” She joined the Friends of KET, a statewide volunteer organization that helps spread KET’s mission across the Commonwealth. “So, KET has been a part of my life for my entire life. It has benefited my family and my community. I have a lot of respect for it.”

Today, as a grandparent, Rebecca turns to KET as the trustworthy network she has relied on for decades. She feels confident letting her grandchildren enjoy PBS KIDS programming, knowing that it is safe, educational and age-appropriate. She also enjoys KET programming for herself, using it to learn more about the things that pique her interest: “As someone determined to be a lifelong learner, I have found that KET offers every subject that can be covered. So if you have an interest, you can find information on it. And of course, with KET Passport, you can have things on demand.”

One of the things that makes KET unique, Rebecca says, is the breadth of its programming. There is truly something for everyone. “Regardless of your background, you can use KET. It offers something for everybody in our commonwealth, from children, to my age and everyone in between.”
