Culture and ideas passed throughout the Black Atlantic and continue to inflect our traditions. In New Orleans, Louisiana, men celebrating Mardi Gras today enact a tradition that is a living connection to Haiti and the Haitian refugees who arrived in New Orleans in 1819.
