American Photography: A Century of Images

Traces the role of photography in the personal and public history of 20th-century America, from the profound effect photographs have had on individual Americans-influencing what they buy, how they dress, how they get the news-to its influence in matters of life and death, medicine, science, and war. The three programs focus on four main roles of photography: recorder of public events, family historian, vehicle of artistic expression, and tool for influencing public opinion.
