Louisville Life spotlights Yew Dell Gardens, Swash-Bucklers leather goods, Louisville Bats, and UofL’s Sam Corbett

For Release: 04/27/15 1:53 PM

Louisville Life travels to one of Louisville’s hidden treasures: Yew Dell Gardens, a botanical wonderland located just outside the city, in Crestwood. The program also explores the leather works of LaGrange artist Janet Strait, talks with Louisville Bats senior vice president Greg Galiette and profiles Sam Corbett, director of community engagement for the University of Louisville’s College of Education and Human Development. The program airs Saturday, May 23 at 5:30/4:30 pm on KET2 and Sunday, May 24 at 10/9 am on KET.

First, the program explores the natural beauty and history that combine to make Yew Dell Gardens one of the nation’s most unique botanical gardens. Situated in Crestwood, Ky., on grounds once home to the late Theodore Klein and his commercial nursery, today Yew Dell is an internationally-recognized center for gardening, plants and education. Recognized on the National Register for Historic Places, Yew Dell’s stunning grounds and buildings – which are in demand for meetings and special events – include the “Castle,” a fieldstone building that originally served as the Klein family’s pool house.

Next, Louisville Life travels to LaGrange to meet leather crafter Janet Strait, whose handmade Swash-Bucklers products – including belts, hatbands, boot straps, guitar straps and more – combine her love of horses and working with leather.

The “ThrowBack Louisville” segment focuses on the city’s television history with the assistance of Louisville’s longtime go-to guy for TV trivia, David Inman.

Then, in the studio, host Candyce Clifft talks baseball with Greg Galiette, senior vice president for The Louisville Bats.

Finally, the program interviews the University of Louisville’s Sam Corbett, director of community engagement for the College of Education and Human Development. Corbett discusses his own mentoring work and why it’s so important for adults to use their time and talents to help young people succeed. The interview is part of KET’s work with the American Graduate Initiative.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer.
