Louisville film chronicles a community’s clash over proposal to relocate Confederate statue

For Release: 04/12/21 11:44 AM

This hour-long documentary from Kentucky filmmaker Morgan Atkinson considers America’s current landscape of intense political and cultural polarization. The film chronicles seven public meetings occurring in Louisville between 2017-2019, each of which ultimately converged on one question: What should the Cherokee Triangle neighborhood do with its statue of John B. Castleman—a Confederate general who likewise founded the American Saddlebred Horse Association and went on to become known as the father of the Louisville Park System? The film offers a compelling portrait of an era at an impasse, where one person’s sense of the truth doesn’t always resonate or correspond with that of others.

The program Statues: This is What We Stand For? airs on Monday, April 19, at 11:30/10:30 pm on KET.
