KET programs and productions were awarded three Regional Emmy Awards at the 51st Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards ceremony held Saturday at the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington.

KET’s long-running, weekly current events news program for fourth through eighth graders, News Quiz, received an Emmy in the Informational/Instructional Program Category. The winning episode, which premiered in Nov. 2014, discussed a wide-range of current news topics, from President Barack Obama’s meetings in China to the successful Rosetta Mission comet landing. Full episodes are available online at KET.org/newsquiz. News Quiz is produced by Brandon Wickey and written by Anna Gordon.

KET’s A History of Kentucky in 25 Objects, produced and written by Barry Bernson, received a Regional Emmy Award in the Writer-Program Category. The film tells the story of Kentucky’s history through 25 iconic objects spanning more than 1,000 years of history, including Bill Monroe’s mandolin, Harland Sanders’ original pressure cooker and more.

Amy Hess, host of KET’s Kentucky Collectibles and contributing producer on KET’s Kentucky Life, received a Regional Emmy in the Program Host/Moderator/Narrator Category for her composite hosting roles with KET as well as her Beloved Productions The Local Traveler, which airs on other Kentucky media outlets.

Additionally, longtime broadcaster and former KET Comment on Kentucky host Ferrell Wellman was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Ohio Valley Chapter’s Silver Circle, which recognizes professionals who have performed distinguished service within the industry for 25 years or more. Wellman was capitol bureau chief for WAVE-TV in Louisville for 18 years and taught broadcasting at Eastern Kentucky University.
