‘Kentucky Tonight’ and ‘Connections’ examine issues stemming from Breonna Taylor case

For Release: 11/13/20 12:06 PM

KET is airing two programs—Connections and Kentucky Tonight—that address questions and concerns that have arisen in the wake of the Breonna Taylor shooting in Louisville.

First, on Connections, which airs Sunday, Nov. 15, at 12 pm/11 am, host Renee Shaw interviews Yvette Gentry, interim police chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department. The first woman and first Black woman to lead the Derby City’s police department, Gentry assumes command of an agency beset by national criticism for its handling of the Breonna Taylor shooting. Shaw discusses with Gentry her plans to build trust and reduce violence in the city gripped by protests and unrest.

Then on Kentucky Tonight, which airs Monday, Nov. 16, at 8/7 pm, Renee Shaw hosts a panel discussion with judges, defense attorneys and prosecuting attorneys on the grand jury system, examining questions about the role, functions, and renewed scrutiny of grand juries in police misconduct cases. The panel of guests includes:

  • Judge McKay Chauvin, Division 8 of the Jefferson Circuit Court
  • Allison Connelly, professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law and director of the Legal Clinic
  • Lou Anna Red Corn, president of the Kentucky Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Association and the Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney
  • Rebecca DiLoreto, executive director of the Institute for Compassion in Justice, legislative agent for the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and an adjunct professor at the University of Kentucky
  • Judge Julie Reinhardt Ward, Campbell County Circuit Court
