‘Kentucky Life’ spotlights some of the Commonwealth’s signature food dishes

For Release: 01/13/21 11:09 AM

The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life could get your stomach growling as it features stories about some of the Commonwealth’s signature foods! The episode airs Saturday, Jan. 23, at 8/7 pm and Sunday, Jan. 24, at 4/3 pm on KET, and Monday, Jan. 25, at 7/6 pm on KET2.

First, Kentucky Life travels to Owensboro for the International Bar B Que Festival, which still features what was once a mainstay of American households: mutton. The dish, common in the 19th and early 20th centuries, has since disappeared from dining room tables, except in Daviess County, where it’s still a welcome dish at many functions.

Then, Kentucky Life is off to Louisville, where food trucks have exploded in popularity in recent years, offering city residents their pick of ethnic cuisines, bakery treats or all-American comfort food favorites.

Finally, Kentucky Life takes a closer look at the Commonwealth’s signature dish: the Hot Brown, which is quickly approaching its 100th anniversary, slated for 2023.  And come check out the Louisville hotel, where the famous dish got its start.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Chelsea Gorham.
