‘Kentucky Life’ spotlights Commonwealth artists and artisans

For Release: 12/21/20 9:22 AM

The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life revisits some of host Doug Flynn’s favorite segments showcasing the Commonwealth’s best artists and artisans. The episode airs Saturday, Jan. 2, at 8/7 pm and Sunday, Jan. 3, at 4/3 pm on KET, and Monday, Jan. 4, at 7/6 pm on KET2.

First, Kentucky Life spotlights internationally acclaimed folk artist and Kentucky treasure Minnie Adkins. Her artwork is inimitably recognizable—colorful, playful and unique—earning her numerous awards and honors and featured in museums, galleries and private collections. Some might classify it as folk art—but according to Minnie, that just means it’s art for everybody.

Then, Kentucky Life celebrates painter Thomas Noble, born in Lexington in 1835, the son of prosperous landowners raising hemp and cotton.  As the Civil War ended, Noble began to feature African-Americans in a sympathetic light in his paintings, as well as depict the horrors of slavery.

Next, Kentucky Life visits Nel Kendrick, who brings an engineer’s concern for precision and accuracy to his hand-crafted guitars.

Finally, Kentucky Life drops by to see Warren May in Berea, who offers a lesson on the dulcimer.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Chelsea Gorham.
