The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life tells the stories of a singer’s familial connection with Shaker Village, Kentucky figures in the Women’s Suffrage Movement, the Marshall County HoopFest, and famed Broadway director and playwright George C. Wolfe. The episode airs Saturday, Feb. 22, at 8/7 pm and Sunday, Feb. 23, at 4/3 pm on KET, and Monday, Feb. 24, at 7/6 pm on KET2.
First, Kentucky Life visits Shaker Village, where Kitty Durham, a music interpreter, pieced together her family’s history only to discover she had an ancestor (with the same first name) doing remarkably similar work at Shaker Village generations ago.
Then, Kentucky Life tells the stories of several Kentucky women who were leading figures in the historic Women’s Suffrage Movement, the multi-decade struggle for women to achieve equal rights in the voting booth.
Next, Kentucky Life dips into its archives for a 2014 segment celebrating the Marshall County HoopFest, where for more than 20 years the event has hosted some of the top high school basketball teams in the country.
Finally, Kentucky Life catches up with Tony Award-winning Broadway director and playwright George C. Wolfe, who grew up in the racially segregated Frankfort of the 1950’s. In 2019, Wolfe returned to his hometown to be honored for his achievements in theater, and he recalled how his early Kentucky experiences helped shape the artist he would become.
Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Chelsea Gorham. Segment producers for this episode are Gary Pahler, Matt Grimm and Abbey Oldham.
This year is Kentucky Life’s 25th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the program will include special Memory segments, in which each of Kentucky Life’shosts—Byron Crawford, Dave Shuffett and Doug Flynn—will revisit some of their favorite stories over the years.
