The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life spotlights the new Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort. Plus, host Doug Flynn tours La Grange in Oldham County; Children’s Charity of the Bluegrass supports the work of dozens of charities; and the first American “Best Dressed Woman in the World” Mona Bismarck is celebrated in Louisville. The episode airs Saturday, May 26 at 8/7 pm and Sunday, May 27 at 4/3 pm on KET and Monday, May 28 at 7/6 pm on KET2.
First, Kentucky Life travels to Frankfort for a revealing look inside the new Castle & Key Distillery, which is bringing new life to the long abandoned Old Taylor Distillery, site of the birth of bourbon tourism in the nineteenth century. Owners Will Arvin and Wes Murray and master distiller Marianne Barnes – Kentucky’s first female bourbon master distiller since Prohibition – share their vision for the new enterprise.
Next, Kentucky Life showcases Children’s Charity of the Bluegrass, which has supported the work of dozens of local charities since its founding in 1981, thanks to its popular Children’s Charity Classic golf event and other outreach initiatives.
Then, Flynn takes viewers to La Grange, in Oldham County, for a look at the charming businesses and restaurants lining its Main Street. Viewers will meet Renee Cortes, owner of Mayan Latin Cuisine, and Lea Cockrell, owner of La Grange coffee Roasters, among others.
Finally, the program travels to the Frazier History Museum in Louisville, which has launched an exhibit on Kentuckian Mona Bismarck (1897-1983), a socialite and style icon who was the first American to be named “Best Dressed Woman in the World.” The museum exhibit showcases more than 80 pieces of Bismarck’s personal couture – including items designed by the likes of Hubert de Givenchy, Cristóbal Balenciaga and others – as well as photos and personal letters.
