‘Kentucky Life’ explores the life of Kentucky author bell hooks, the Lexington Writer’s Room, WKDZ’s efforts in the wake of 2021 tornadoes in Western Kentucky, and the Butterfly Greenhouse in Frankfort

On this episode of Kentucky Life, host Chip Polston explores the life and works of renowned Kentucky author and activist bell hooks, who championed the experiences of Black and working-class women that she argued were ignored by mainstream feminism; visits the Lexington Writer’s Room, which offers local, active writers (and visitors) affordable and collaborative workspaces; learns the story of WKDZ and its sister radio station in Princeton that went to great efforts to stay on the air and provide vital communication to the community after tornados went through Western Kentucky in 2021; and enjoys the camaraderie at the Butterfly Greenhouse at Wilson Nurseries & Plant Co. in Frankfort.
