Kentucky Life celebrates Kentucky’s river ferries, Idlewild, and sneakerhead culture

For Release: 03/30/20 12:02 PM

The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life celebrates Kentucky’s river ferries, Idlewild and sneakerhead culture. The episode airs Saturday, April 11, at 8/7 pm and Sunday, April 12, at 4/3 pm on KET, and Monday, April 13, at 7/6 pm on KET2.

First, Kentucky Life detours off the highways for a more leisurely form of travel: river ferry. There are a total of ten ferries operating in Kentucky. While all are not free, each provides a graceful way to go back in time and for a few moments, enjoy the waterways of this beautiful state.

Then, Kentucky Life goes into its archives for a memory segment when host Doug Flynn recounts his visit to Idlewild.

And lastly, Kentucky Life checks out the state’s sneakerheads, those young and old who collect, sell, and customize their favorites shoes. It’s a growing field, one that’s created a culture all its own.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Chelsea Gorham. Segment producers for this episode are Brandon Turner, Valerie Trimble and Tom Thurman.

This year is Kentucky Life’s25th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the program will include special Memory segments, in which each of Kentucky Life’shosts—Byron Crawford, Dave Shuffett and Doug Flynn—will revisit some of their favorite stories over the years.

KET is Kentucky’s largest classroom, where learning comes to life for more than one million people each week via television, online and mobile. Learn more about Kentucky’s preeminent public media organization at KET.org, on Twitter @KET and at facebook.com/KET.
