On the next Connections, Renee Shaw talks with the Republican and Democrat candidates running for the Kentucky State Treasurer position in the 2023 general election: Democrat Michael Bowman and Republican Mark Metcalf.

The candidates will appear in separate segments on the program.

The Kentucky State Treasurer essentially acts as the state’s chief financial officer and handles the state’s checkbook. All the money Kentuckians pay in taxes goes through the state treasurer’s office. The treasurer also sits on several boards and commissions, including the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System and the Kentucky Lottery. The Kentucky State Treasurer is among the constitutional offices, along with Governor, Kentuckians will decide in November. The current office holder, Republican Allison Ball, is term limited.
