The Long Road to War, a Frontline Special Report

This documentary, produced on the eve of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in March 2003, draws on more than 12 years of reporting on Iraq to tell the history of the U.S. confrontation with Saddam Hussein. Topics include the history of how the West armed Iraq, Saddam's mind and methods, the origins of the first Gulf War and its ragged end, the frustrating effort to disarm Iraq through United Nations inspections, how Saddam survived efforts to undermine his power, and the long-standing effort by Washington hawks to remove him.
