The simple idea of following in the footsteps of the Florida Black Bear was the original inspiration for the 70-day, 1,000-mile journey chronicled in "The Forgotten Coast." To travel the land as the bear does is to begin to understand the landscape from an animal's POV. Black Bear biologist Joe Guthrie likes to say "the bears are showing us the way."
