The Fight in the Fields: César Chávez and the Farmworkers' Struggle

Under the leadership of Chávez, the United Farmworkers of America combined nonviolent protest with Mexican-American traditions and values to improve conditions for migrant agricultural laborers. The first successful farmworkers' union, the UFWA also inspired Chicano activism in other areas throughout the 1960s and '70s.
