For Release: 08/01/16 12:55 PM
On the next Connections with Renee Shaw, former NBA standout Dominique Wilkins shares details of his career and his work as a diabetes advocate. The program airs Friday, Aug. 5 at 5/4 pm on KET2 and Sunday, Aug. 7 at 1:30/12:30 pm on KET.
A nine-time NBA All-Star who is widely viewed as one of the best dunkers in NBA history, Wilkins played most of his professional career (1982-1994) with the Atlanta Hawks. His finesse and knack for racking up highlight-worthy dunks earned him the nickname “The Human Highlight Film.”
As a college basketball for the University of Georgia (1979-1982), he was named the 1981 SEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. In 2006, Wilkins was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Wilkins, who lost both his father and grandfather to complications of diabetes, is himself diabetic and now works as a diabetes education advocate to promote the need for better diabetes prevention, screening and treatment.
During the program, he talks with Shaw about his storied NBA career and his current mission to help combat the nation’s diabetes epidemic.
Connections with Renee Shaw is a KET production, produced by Shaw.
