KET Launches New Educational Resource ‘Cursive Connection’

For Release: 09/25/25 10:11 AM

FOR RELEASE: September 25, 2025

In response to Senate Bill 167, which “requires cursive writing to be included as a course of study in all elementary schools beginning in the 2025-2026 school year,” KET has developed and recently launched Cursive Connection.

Cursive Connection is an online resource, featuring videos, printables and tutorials, that helps guide students, instructors and parents through learning and teaching each letter of the alphabet in the New American Cursive style, popularized due to its streamlined letter forms which are simple for even young writers. Corresponding professional development courses will be available in early October, providing additional information on the benefits of learning to write in cursive, additional instruction for left-handed writers, classroom-ready practice activities, and ways parents and educators can address common writing challenges.

Amy Grant, senior director of education for KET, is optimistic about the resource’s impact. “Cursive Connection helps students grow their reading, writing and fine motor skills while also sparking focus, creativity and confidence that carry beyond the classroom. We’re excited to bring students, teachers and families together through the timeless art of handwriting.”

Free for users, Cursive Connection materials are available on PBS LearningMedia and streaming on KET Education’s YouTube. To access all resources, visit KET.org/Cursive.

Cursive Connection is funded in part by the John R. Hall Endowment for Education.

KET is Kentucky’s largest classroom, providing trusted programming, lifelong learning opportunities and essential services to more than two million people each week. Learn more about Kentucky’s preeminent public media organization at KET.org, on X @KET and at facebook.com/KET.

Editor’s Note: KET’s weekly program Inside Louisville will feature Iris Hatfield, the Louisville woman who created New American Cursive on Sunday, September 28 at noon/11 am.
