Heirloom Seeds

Maggie and Lindsey learn about heirloom seeds from a farmer in Jackson County. She shares her preservation methods passed down from generation to generation. They cook a meal using recipes passed down from each of their families. Recipes include soup beans, chuck roast and parsnips.

The Farmer & The Foodie hosts, Maggie Keith (The Farmer) and Lindsey McClave (The Foodie), celebrate regional food traditions and create delicious recipes by visiting the people and places providing the ingredients and inspiring simple, healthy meals. The two friends travel the state, where they draw inspiration from the farms, ingredients and people they encounter. Then they bring what they’ve learned into the kitchen to create delicious and approachable recipes.

Each episode wraps up with Maggie, Lindsey, and the friends they’ve met sitting down and enjoying a meal together — underscoring The Farmer & The Foodie‘s mantra that “good food is meant to be shared.”

Lindsey McClave is a food and wine writer and self-taught home cook with a knack for creating original recipes with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

Maggie Keith is the owner and operator of Foxhollow Farm and a passionate advocate for Kentucky farmland.

Tackling Carp in Western Kentucky - S1 E6

The season's final episode brings Maggie and Lindsey to Paducah, Kentucky, where they learn firsthand how the community is turning the problem of the invasive carp fish into an opportunity. Chef Sara Bradley of Freight House cooks carp for Maggie and Lindsey, sharing with them the many benefits of this misunderstood fish. Maggie joins local fisherman Marcus on his boat and helps catch his daily carp haul, which Lindsey fries and serves with squash soup.
