KET Pipeline
In Our Studios
- Candidates for Kentucky’s U.S. House and Senate seats answer questions from journalists in our series of Election 2008 candidate forums. Bill Goodman moderates. • Mondays, September 15-October 27 at 8:00/7:00 pm CT on KET1, with repeats on Wednesdays at 2:00/1:00 am CT
- In February 2009, America’s analog television transmitters will be turned off and digital TV will take over. What does the transition mean to you? How do you know whether you need a new set or a converter box? What’s the difference between digital TV and high-definition TV? And what other new services and features come with digital broadcasting? Those questions and more are discussed from a Kentucky perspective in our new production The ABCs of HDTV. • Saturday, November 29 at 4:30/3:30 am CT on KET1
Out and About
- As Kentuckians, we live in one of the prettiest places on Earth. So as KET converts to high-definition production for our local programs, one of our first priorities is capturing some of that beauty in this stunning new format. During TeleFund 2009 in March, keep an eye out for a high-definition “travelogue” program (working title: Beautiful Kentucky) celebrating natural and manmade delights from every corner of the state.
- The “road warriors” of Kentucky Life are out and about producing segments for new programs to air this fall and winter. Then next spring, look for KET’s most popular local production to go high-definition! Meanwhile, encores of programs from earlier in Season 14 are now airing on weekends. • Saturdays at 8:00/7:00 pm CT and Sundays at 4:30/3:30 pm CT on KET1; Sundays at 7:00/6:00 pm CT on KET2 • You can also catch selections from the Kentucky Life archive each weeknight. • Monday-Friday at 11:30/10:30 pm CT on KET1
- In the summer of 2007, our crews visited Owensboro for the River of Music Party to record performances for the 13th season of Jubilee. • Wednesdays at 8:00/7:00 pm CT on KET1 and Saturdays at 11:00/10:00 pm CT on KET2 • Viewers around the country are also discovering the series, which is now in its seventh season of distribution to PBS stations nationwide. Next year, Kentucky viewers will get first look at a new season featuring performances from Renfro Valley’s 2008 bluegrass festival, where our crews taped the proceedings this past June.
- Coming up on Kentucky Author Forum Presents is a conversation with former U.S. Sen. David Boren, whose book A Letter to America assesses the current and future roles of the U.S. in world politics. He discussed the reforms he believes are needed to maintain superpower status with National Public Radio host Neal Conan on October 6 at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in Louisville. • Wednesday, October 22 at 10:00/9:00 pm CT and Friday, October 24 at 2:00/1:00 am CT on KET1
- When the General Assembly is in town, so are we. KET is now providing live coverage of selected interim legislative committee meetings online and on the digital Kentucky Channel.
And on the Horizon ...
- In partnership with various other Kentucky and federal agencies, we’re working on a three-part educational project—a documentary, an electronic field trip, and a professional development component for teachers—on watersheds and water quality in Kentucky. Part 1, the documentary Common Ground and Cleaner Water, aired in spring 2006. The electronic field trip will make its debut on KET ED next school year.
- Another new field trip, coming in the fall of 2009, will take students aboard the Belle of Louisville for lessons on topics ranging from the physics of movement to the history of transportation in America.
- Thoroughbred, slated to premiere in the spring of 2010, the year Kentucky hosts the World Equestrian Games, will be a wide-ranging inside look at the history of the breed and the horse racing industry. Produced by Academy Award winner Paul Wagner, it will also be the first fruit of the KET Endowment for Kentucky Productions.
